About this tool
Make a single folded booklet signature from your PDF. The output places two visible source pages on each upright landscape spread, ordered as outer leaf front/back, then inner leaves. Choose left or right binding and whether to append blank pages to a multiple of four. Inspect the actual output before test-printing.
Common uses
- Prepare a small folded reading booklet from sequential source pages.
- Check page pairs, binding and blank padding before printing a numbered test leaf.
How to use it
- 1.Choose one PDF and inspect original dimensions, rotation and the booklet plan.
- 2.Choose landscape paper, binding, padding, margin and center gap. Read the print assumptions and page pairs.
- 3.Create the PDF, inspect every front/back spread and blank cell, download and test-print before a full run.
Booklet examples
Eight pages, left binding
8 visible pages100×140 pt; paper320×170 pt; left binding; no padding; margin15 pt; gap10 pt
Spreads: 4; leaves: 2; blanks: 0 Left/right pairs: [8,1] | [2,7] | [6,3] | [4,5] Scale: 100%; first left x35 y15 pt
Each leaf has a front and back spread. The outside cover pair comes first, followed by the outer back and inner leaf.
Five pages, right binding with padding
5 visible pages100×140 pt; paper320×170 pt; right binding; append blanks; margin15 pt; gap10 pt
Spreads: 4; leaves: 2; blanks: 3 Left/right pairs: [1,blank] | [blank,2] | [3,blank] | [5,4]
Logical pages6–8 are blank. Right binding reverses each left-binding pair; the five original pages each appear once.
Limits and notes
- One PDF up to 10 MiB and 100 source pages; output up to 40 MiB. Reading, worker processing and rendering each have a cancellable 30-second deadline. Compressed streams can consume substantial memory; no hard decoded-memory cap is claimed.
- Standard A4/A3/A5/Letter/Legal paper is always landscape. Custom width must be at least height, both 1–10000 pt. Margin and center gap are finite 0–10000 pt and must leave both cells at least 1 pt wide/high. Units: 1 in = 72 pt and 1 mm = 72/25.4 pt; changes convert custom dimensions and spacing.
- Append mode adds blank logical pages at the end to the next multiple of 4; no-padding mode requires the source count to be a multiple of 4. Each source appears once. Left binding for 8 pages: [8,1], [2,7], [6,3], [4,5]; right binding swaps the two positions on each spread. Blank source pages still consume a position. Each pair is shown left/right when facing that printed side.
- This is one signature: outer leaf front then back, then each inner leaf front/back. Output spreads are upright and are not automatically rotated for printer duplex or feed direction. Keep this order and test a numbered leaf to determine duplex flip, front/back orientation and stacking for your printer; do not apply the printer’s booklet/reordering function again. Multiple signatures, creep compensation, trim/registration marks and automatic printer control are not provided.
- Each visible CropBox/MediaBox intersection is proportionally fit and centered, possibly enlarged; quarter rotations are honored and new spreads use Rotate 0. This is not lossless rendering or redaction: embedded hidden content may remain. Annotations, links, explicit auxiliary boxes, document bookmarks/tags/metadata/signatures are not preserved. Invalid geometry, non-default UserUnit, encryption, AcroForms and signature permissions reject. Thumbnails use a 160px edge, omit annotations and may omit images above 2 million pixels; failed previews prevent download. Settings/reset/new files/locales invalidate output. No upload, input persistence or external PDF lookup.
Frequently asked questions
Which duplex flip setting should I use?
The PDF has upright front/back spreads, without printer-specific flipping. Test a numbered leaf on your printer to confirm orientation and stacking before printing the complete booklet.
What happens to an odd number of pages?
Append mode adds blank logical pages at the end to a multiple of four. No-padding mode rejects counts that are not a multiple of four.
