About this tool
Inspect the fields, edit their values and choose an editable or flattened copy. All processing stays in this browser. Unsupported forms are explained and cannot be exported.
Common uses
- Complete an ordinary registration form using supported Latin text and check boxes.
- Freeze form appearances after verifying values and reviewing the saved PDF.
How to use it
- 1.Choose a form PDF or load the local example. Read every unsupported-field diagnostic.
- 2.Edit printable ASCII values, check boxes and preset choices. Read-only fields stay unchanged; choose editable or flattened output.
- 3.Create the PDF. Check the readback report and every actual-output preview, then download and inspect it at full size.
Worked local example
Keep fields editable
Local example: Applicant.Name=Ada Lovelace; Agree=true; Color=Green; mode=editable
Applicant.Name=Ada Lovelace; Agree=checked; Color=Green; 3 editable fields.
Flatten form fields
Local example: Applicant.Name=Ada Lovelace; Agree=true; Color=Green; mode=flattened
Values verified before flattening; 0 editable fields remain.
Limits and notes
- 1 PDF / 10 MiB / 50 pages / 100 fields / 300 widgets. Field tree: 500 nodes, depth 16; names 256 characters, text 2000 characters, 100 choices per field. Output 40 MiB. Each read, worker and preview phase has a cancellable 30-second deadline. Previews: 512px maximum edge, 262144 pixels per page, 16 MiB total. No hard decoded-memory cap.
- Text and choice labels must use printable ASCII (space through ~); multiline text may contain LF. Chinese/Japanese characters and other unsupported characters are blocked. Appearance fonts and styling are regenerated with Helvetica.
- Supports plain AcroForm text, check boxes, fixed dropdowns and option lists (including multi-selection). Radio buttons, push buttons, rich text, password/file/combed fields, editable dropdowns, paired display/export choices, anonymous fields, duplicate names, hidden/rotated/missing widgets and actions/calculations block export. XFA and signature fields/permissions are reported, not converted. No digital signing.
- Value readback verifies saved editable values. Flattened output verifies values before flattening, then reloads the final PDF to require zero fields. This is not a guarantee of matching every reader, layout, font or original appearance.
- This is not signing, redaction or sanitization. Flattening removes supported form widgets, but other annotations, attachments, metadata, links and hidden content can remain. Scripts are not executed here; inspect downloads in a trusted reader. Required flags are displayed but business rules are not validated. Read-only values stay unchanged. File, values, output mode, language, clear or cancel invalidate downloads. Inspect full-size originals and output: clipped text, styling, missing glyphs and reader differences can matter.
Frequently asked questions
Which languages can I type in the PDF?
Printable ASCII only, plus LF in multiline fields. The interface has English, Chinese and Japanese; those interface languages do not imply Unicode font coverage. Unsupported original text and choice labels block export.
Does flattening sanitize the PDF?
No. Supported form widgets are removed after their appearance is added to page content. Other annotations, attachments, metadata and hidden content may remain.
Are required fields validated?
The required flag is displayed as document metadata. This tool does not check form-specific business rules. Read-only values cannot be changed.
