About this tool

Local PNG/JPEG header preflight: dimensions, print size and supported metadata. Compressed pixels and ICC profile contents are not decoded or validated; this does not certify image validity or print readiness.

Common uses

  • Check pixel-based print size before sending a PNG or JPEG to a printer.
  • Identify aspect mismatch and supported transparency or profile markers without uploading an image.

How to use it

  1. 1.Choose a local static PNG or supported 8-bit JPEG; inspect its stored and oriented dimensions and metadata.
  2. 2.Enter print width/height in mm or inches and the printer’s PPI target; compare X/Y PPI and aspect mismatch.
  3. 3.Use the fit size or match-width control as needed, then download a localized text or JSON summary.

Limits and notes

  • PNG static only; JPEG 8-bit SOF0/1/2 only. Max 20 MiB, 8000 per edge, 40 million pixels, 4096 records, 256 EXIF IFD0 entries, 15-second read/inspection deadline. Physical size 0.1–10000 mm per axis; target >0–2400 PPI. No CMYK conversion, profile validation, bleed, PDF/X or press certification.
  • Effective PPI = oriented pixels ÷ print inches. The default 300 PPI is editable; ask your printer for its requirements. A density tag does not add image detail. Printer DPI measures a different output process.
  • Alpha/channel or transparency tags indicate possible transparency, not actual transparent pixel counts. ICC presence does not verify profile contents or color accuracy. JPEG three/four-component data is not certified RGB/CMYK; GPS, names, profile contents and thumbnails are excluded from the summary.
  • Aspect difference over 0.1% is flagged. Effective X/Y PPI assumes stretching to the entered width and height. Fit size preserves the oriented pixel ratio, leaving margins when necessary; no image is resized or cropped.
  • Local PNG/JPEG header preflight: dimensions, print size and supported metadata. Compressed pixels and ICC profile contents are not decoded or validated; this does not certify image validity or print readiness.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 300 DPI tag prove that my image can print sharply?

No. The effective PPI depends on oriented pixel dimensions and your chosen physical size. Sharpness and press requirements require separate assessment.

Does the summary disclose the original image or private EXIF?

No image bytes, filename, GPS, names, thumbnails or profile contents are included. JSON has stable English keys plus a localized summary; only supported density and orientation tags are reported.
