About this tool
Local transitional DOCX body paragraphs, Heading1–6, basic bold/italic runs, lists at levels0–8, safe HTTP(S)/mailto links and simple GFM tables. No macro or external-resource execution. Complex formatting is diagnosed; this is not full DOCX/GFM conformance or page-layout reproduction.
Common uses
- Keep Word body text as headings, lists, links and Markdown tables.
- Package local image bytes beside document.md without fetching external resources.
How to use it
- 1.Choose one .docx and select HTML or Markdown + ZIP; HTML remains the default.
- 2.Convert, inspect the full counts,12000-unit Markdown source preview and every loss diagnostic.
- 3.Acknowledge all losses before Markdown export. Use ZIP when relative image files are needed.
Body heading and literal text
Body heading and literal text

## Sample Hello & world
Heading2 becomes a Markdown heading; literal ampersands are entity-escaped to preserve rendered text.
Limits and notes
- Legacy .doc is unsupported. Up to 32 MiB compressed, 64 MiB expanded and 1200 ZIP entries; individual embedded images are limited to 8 MiB. Word page layout is not reproduced exactly.
- Markdown limits:8 MiB archive,8 MiB entry,24 MiB expanded,600 entries;2 MiB/XML,50000 total parsed nodes,depth64,5000 paragraphs;4 MiB/image,16 MiB/100 images;500000 UTF-16 units/2 MiB Markdown;20 MiB uncompressed package plus65536 ZIP overhead. FileReader15s, ZIP unpack15s. Cancellation aborts reading and discards late results; already-started ZIP workers finish within their limit. XML/conversion/ZIP packaging are bounded synchronous operations, not a whole-process memory ceiling.
- document.md references relative images/ paths. Use the ZIP to keep Markdown and its local image files together. Assets are copied original bytes after header admission, not decoded or re-encoded. Source names and metadata are omitted from generated paths; body, links and image bytes can still contain private data.

Frequently asked questions
Will external images, macros or fields execute?
Markdown never fetches external resources or evaluates fields. Macro content types/parts are rejected. External images and unsafe links are omitted with diagnostics.
Does Markdown retain every Word layout detail?
Only the supported body subset is converted. Simple tables use declared first-row headers or a synthetic blank header; merged/nested/content-control tables flatten. Number starts/restarts and complex formatting are diagnosed. HTML keeps its established conversion path.
