About this tool

Count Unicode code points, whitespace-separated words, lines and paragraphs. Word and phrase frequencies.

Common uses

  • Count Unicode code points, whitespace-separated words, lines and paragraphs.
  • Paste text to update counts immediately.

How to use it

  1. 1.Paste text to update counts immediately.
  2. 2.Compare total characters with characters excluding whitespace; blank lines separate paragraphs.
  3. 3.Unicode mode counts each Han, Hiragana or Katakana character separately and groups other letters, marks, numbers and underscores. Whitespace mode keeps punctuation; custom delimiters are literal strings, one per line (longest first). Case folding uses JavaScript lowercase without Unicode normalization. Stopwords are exact tokens, one per line; they break phrases. Phrases count overlapping adjacent tokens in the whole document, including across punctuation and line breaks. Token tuples are JSON arrays to distinguish embedded spaces and preserve boundaries. CSV exports all rows, including those outside the 100-row preview. JSON escaping keeps control characters visible; spreadsheet cells begin with [ rather than a formula.

Worked example

Input and result

a b

c
3 words; 3 lines; 2 paragraphs; 6 code points

Blank lines separate paragraphs while words split on whitespace.

Word and phrase frequencies

Hello hello world
["hello"]: 2; ["world"]: 1

Unicode mode, case insensitive, length 1, no stopwords.

Word and phrase frequencies (2)

中文中文
["中","文"]: 2; ["文","中"]: 1

Unicode mode, length 2: overlapping character pairs. This is not linguistic segmentation.

Limits and notes

  • Words are whitespace-separated tokens, not linguistic segmentation for Chinese or Japanese. Emoji sequences may contain multiple code points.
  • Limits: 100,000 UTF-16 input units; 20,000 tokens; 10,000 unique phrases; 10,000 stopword units; 32 delimiters of up to 32 units; 2 MB CSV. Local processing only; no input storage.
  • Empty stopword lines are ignored; leading and trailing spaces in nonempty lines are preserved. Unicode mode omits symbols outside the stated letter/mark rules; digits, variation selectors or combining marks in emoji can remain as tokens; Latin letters with Han or kana are split at script boundaries.
