About this tool

Compare relative paths and SHA-256 hashes of two local file sets, then export added, missing and modified entries as CSV or JSON.

Common uses

  • Check a backup for missing files and changed contents.
  • Verify a website release package against its source directory.

How to use it

  1. 1.Select the baseline and new folders, or two file batches.
  2. 2.Compare, filter by status and review relative paths.
  3. 3.Export a CSV or JSON report containing full hashes and file sizes.

Limits and notes

  • Up to 2,000 files and 256 MiB per side; each file may be up to 64 MiB.
  • Folder mode strips the outer root name; file mode compares filenames only. Paths are case-sensitive and NFC-normalized; duplicates and case collisions within one side are rejected.
  • Empty directories are excluded. Files are never synchronized, copied or deleted; CSV exports protect formula-like values.

Frequently asked questions

Can the selected folders have different names?

Yes. Folder selection strips the browser-provided outer directory name and compares the relative paths below it.

How is a modified file identified?

The tool compares SHA-256 content hashes and byte counts at each path. Timestamps are ignored. A renamed path appears as an addition and a missing file.
